Writers' Retreat

The Writer’s Retreat is intended to function as a centre point between the local community and the large academic community.

The building hopes to inspire and connect inhabitants to the landscape of Parma.

Reacting to the changing levels of Torrente Parma, the building evolves with areas changing levels, becoming isolated, and opening up new spaces.

This kinship with the river connecting the building and its users to the ever fluctuating patters around them.

As well as providing community space, the building's foundations form part of a trench that helps to mitigate potential flooding, an issue that regularly impacts the city.
